Description:
The psychological drama "A Woman of Paris" a silent film about the mores of high society, in which Charles Chaplin demonstrated a whole range of new expressive means, completely unexpected for the cinema of that time. This was the first film by Charles Chaplin in which he acted as a director, but not as an actor. Critics liked this Chaplin film very much, but the audience, in love with the Little Tramp, did not accept it. Both Chaplin and United Artists were very disappointed, and "A Woman of Paris" went to the shelf, where it lay for 50 years, inaccessible to a wide audience. As the years passed, it became apparent that Chaplin's genius surpassed the image of the Little Tramp. The film "A Woman of Paris", directed against the hypocrisy and immorality of modern society, had a huge impact on many directors of melodramas about the life of high society.
