Beschreibung:
Im Todesjahr Giuseppe Verdis werden 1900 auf einem Gut in der Emilia Romana Olmo, Enkel des Pachtbauern, und Alfredo, Enkel des Großgrundbesitzers, geboren. Als Kinder Freunde, in der Jugend auf gemeinsame Sexabenteuer aus, werden sie in der Zeit des Faschismus und im Weltkrieg erbitterte politische Gegner. Am 25. April 1945 besetzen die Landarbeiter das Gut. Alfredo wird in einem Scheinprozess verurteilt. Olmo sagt sich vom Stalinismus los und öffnet die KPI für den historischen Kompromiss.
